Project Gray
One of our club goals is to have colors added to the Standard of Perfection for Sebastopols. The first color we will focus on is gray. Below is a list of requirements and a proposed gray SOP. Please join us in this project. We would love your contribution.
The proposed SOP for grays is based off the APA standard for Sebastopol and Toulouse geese. Sebastopol for body type and Toulouse for color.
DISQUALIFICATIONS
Solid white feathers in primaries or secondaries; white around base of bill in young specimens. (See General Disqualifications and Cutting for Defects.)
COMMON DEFECTS
White patches at juncture of bill and skull in old specimens; white edging and splashes in feathers.
COLOR – GANDER AND GOOSE
BILL - Pale orange; bean, light horn, free from black in mature specimens.
EYES: - Dark brown or hazel.
HEAD - Dark blue-gray.
NECK - Dark blue-gray, shading to lighter gray as it approaches the back; front of neck; same as breast.
BACK - Dark gray.
TAIL - Gray and white, the ends tipped with white.
WINGS
BOWS AND COVERTS – Dark gray.
PRIMARIES – Dark gray.
SECONDARIES – Dark gray.
BREAST - Light gray.
BODY AND FLUFF:
BODY – Underneath, light gray, growing lighter until it becomes almost white on abdomen, the white extending back to and around tail; sides, light gray becoming dark blue-gray over thighs; from lower front view, very little white visible.
FLUFF – White.
LEGS AND FEET:
LOWER THIGHS – Light gray.
SHANKS AND FEET – Deep reddish orange.
Admission Requirements
1. 5 breeders need to sign affidavits attesting to having bred the variety for at least five years and that they breed no less than 50% true to type. These breeders signing affidavits must be APA members for at least 5 years.
2. Certificates must be provided as evidence of having shown 4 or more birds in each class (c,h,k,p) and have been shown at APA sanctioned shows and judged by licences judges in the past 2 years.
3. There will be 2 qualifying meets. At these meets there must be at least 25 birds total shown for a new variety and these must represent an equal number of c,h,k,p. There must be at least 5 different breeders, who must be members, but they do not have to be the same 5 breeders from step one.
